CHANEL CLASSIC FLAP BAG REVIEW
When you think of Chanel, you think of the Classic Flap Bag. And when you think of the Classic Flap Bag, you think of Chanel. They’re linked together and inseparable. Every element on the Classic Bag represents the house because they’re made for a reason – there is a story behind it.
The Chanel Classic Flap Bag is from the Classic Collection, which means they’re available in all season. But due to their popularity, they get sold-out as soon as the stock gets in. The Classic Flap Bag is so famous that Chanel increases the prices every year (sometimes with as much as 20%+). The more price increase, the more people rush to purchase. And after two years, it will make anybody feels like they’ve got a bargain.
This beautiful shoulder bag is the most wanted accessory in the fashion world. It’s classic, classy and timeless. The design is crafted to use in almost every occasions and it matches with almost anything in your wardrobe. The most popular color is the black in medium/large or jumbo size.
The Chanel Classic Flap Bag
In the past Chanel wasn’t as famous as today and there were multiple edition of flap bags available in the market that were inspired by the 2.55 Bag. But that all changed in 1983 as Karl Lagerfeld discontinued most of them and created a single handbag that would be signature of the house. This bag is the Chanel Classic Flap Bag.
Many features on the Classic Flap Bag mirror the 2.55 Bag, think of the back pocket, the size of the bag and the shape of the flap. While Coco Chanel invented the CC interlocking, it was Karl who put it on the Classic Flap Bag. The CC interlocking has become another icon of the house and is seen in many Chanel handbags including new and seasonal accessories.
Every fashion conscious person recognizes a Chanel Classic Flap Bag. Nobody can avoid its charisma, and that’s all thanks to the impeccable craftsmanship and the high quality leather. The most common characteristics on the Classic Flap Bag are the diamond quilting, the woven chain strap, the back pocket, burgundyish interior (this color can changes per season) and the woven chain strap. Right inside the flap also comes with an zip pocket, which was by Coco Chanel to hide her love letters. The diamond quilting is inspired by Jockey player’s jackets and the interior burgundy lining has the same color as the uniform that kids wear in the orphanage, this is also where Coco grew up.
If there is anything that would put a smiley on your face, that would be the interior. While it can’t compete against a shopping bag, the inside is well structured with multiple pockets.
When the flap is opened, the main compartment is still not accessible. There is another flap that you need to pull up. And when that’s done, you can find multiple layers of interior pockets. Each pocket is crafted to organize your essential. The center features the main compartment, that’s where the most important essentials are stored.
Now the Chanel Classic Flap Bag used to be made in single flap (before 2008), but that edition has been discontinued. Now it’s only available in double flaps.
From the Extra Mini to the Maxi size, each bag is evenly iconic. However, the medium/large and the jumbo bag are the most common choices due to the balance between functionality and the weight, which makes them the most practical to use. The mini versions are ideal for day and for the evenings; they’re the cutest bags in the collection.
The Maxi bag was released in 2009, which is around the same time that the single flap was discontinued and the double flap was introduced. The Maxi joined the collection because oversized bags became more popular and there were demands for bigger handbags.
Leathers And Materials
When the Chanel Classic Flap Bag was first-introduced, there were two leathers available; lambskin and caviar. And both of these leathers are still considered classic choices today.
Before 2010, the lambskin and the caviar have their own price tag. The lambskin was slightly more expensive than the caviar. But after 2010, Chanel harmonized the prices for both of these leathers and now both of them are priced the same.
There are a lot of discussions whether to choose between the lambskin or caviar is a good choice. It’s all personal choice and use – the lambskin is super soft, but very fragile. It can be easily scratch, which means you need to baby it. But lambskin feels luxurious and high class. The caviar is very hard, but durable and scratch-resistance. It’s also very easy to maintain.
As per today, there is more seasonal version of the Classic Flap Bag available. It includes the so black edition, which means the hardware as well as the leather is made in the black color. This version is very rare and limited available.
There are also Classic Flap Bag available in chevron quilting and in smooth grained calfskin leather.
